Avs buried under avalanche of hits
Five singles produce four runs in the second inning for host Wilmington in the win over the Avalanche.
WILMINGTON, Del. -- Wilmington posted five straight singles during a four-run second inning Wednesday night in a 7-2 win over Salem.
With two outs, Miguel Vega poked a single to center against Casey Hudspeth. After Josh Johnson punched a base hit to left, Matt Morizio followed suit and Wilmington (15-17) led first.
Next, Brett Bigler's base hit scored Johnson for a 2-0 lead. The following batter, Jarrod Dyson, deadened a bunt in front of the plate toward first base. Hudspeth's throw missed the mark at first and Wilmington scored a pair of runs.
Both Koby Clemens and Jordan Parraz scored on an error in the second which halved the deficit for Salem (13-19).
Wilmington advanced the lead in the sixth with two runs, however.
