KINSTON, N.C. -- The Indians took advantage of six walks, two hit batters and an error to score a 4-2 Carolina League win over the Salem Avalanche at Grainger Stadium on Monday.

Salem starter Casey Hudspeth lasted just 3 ²₃ innings as he struggled with his control in the opening game of a three-game series.

Hudspeth loaded the bases with two walks and a single in the first inning, then forced in a run by hitting Jared Goedert with a pitch.

Adam Davis hit an RBI-single in the Kinston second and then drew a bases-loaded walk -- after an error by third baseman Jhon Florentino -- to force in another run in the third inning.

Niuman Romero had an RBI-single for the Indians (4-10) in the third.

First baseman Mark Ori rapped a two-run single for Salem (9-8) in the fifth inning.

The two teams combined for 13 walks and four hit batters. Salem stranded 12 runners on base; Kinston marooned 11.
