Joe Saunders' tips for pitching to the Yankees

Los Angeles Angels pitcher and ex-Virginia Tech star Joe Saunders offers this advice to the Hokie pitchers from spring training in Arizona:

"The Yankees’ hitters are really patient. Keep the ball down as best you can."

"The biggest thing is getting ahead of them. If the Tech pitchers start falling behind 1-0, 2-0, 3-1, 2-1, the Yankees are going to know a fastball’s coming; they’re going to hit it pretty hard. If they can get ahead in the count, mix in some first-pitch strikes, I think they’ve got a chance."

"They’re going to be aggressive, and you need to be aggressive right back and just attack the zone. If they see guys trying to nibble or trying to throw the nasty slider or throw as hard as they humanly can a fastball, they’re just going to take it because it’s not going to be a strike."
