Avalanche to play doubleheader today
The Salem Avalanche postponed its scheduled Carolina League baseball game Monday in memory of the victims of the shooting at Virginia Tech.
"It's for those kids and their families," Avalanche general manager John Katz said. "They are part of our community.
"I think it's the right thing to do."
Katz said Carolina League president John Hopkins, Avalanche manager Jim Pankovits and Randy Knorr, manager of the opposing Potomac Nationals, "were all very supportive."
The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader today. The first game is slated for 11 a.m., with the second following 30 minutes after its completion.
