PULASKI — Johnson City teed off on a pair of Pulaski relievers in an eight-run sixth inning Wednesday and went on to a 12-5 victory in an Appalachian League slugfest at Calfee Park.
The Cardinals and Mariners combined for 29 hits, which amazingly included just one home run — Rowan Wick’s three-run shot in the sixth.
Johnson City scored three in the first off Pulaski starter Ramire Cleto (1-2), who settled down and held the Cardinals at bay for the next four innings.
After Pulaski scored single runs in the third and fifth, the Cardinals unloaded on relievers Daniel Thieben (four runs, three walks, no outs) and Dylan De Meyer (four runs, four hits in one inning).
Jeffrey Zimmerman and Isaiah Yates each had three hits to pace the Mariners’ 13-hit attack.
