WILMINGTON, Del. — A three-run first inning and a solid pitching performance from William Cuevas was enough to lift the Salem Red Sox past the Wilmington Blue Rocks 4-3 on Sunday afternoon.
Cuevas pitched seven innings, only allowing three hits and recording four strikeouts. Nate Striz came in from the bullpin in the eighth to preserve the win and pick up the save.
Henry Ramos led off the game with a walk, and Deven Marrero singled to left field to put two men on. Two batters later, Tim Roberson homered to left field to put the Sox up 3-0.
Roberson drove in Marrero with a single in the top of the third inning after Marrero stole third to record his 10th steal of the season. At the end of three, Salem led 4-0.
Wilmington’s Adam Lane homered in the fourth, and the Blue Rocks attempted to rally in the eighth inning, but Striz’s pitching ended the threat.
Salem held on to clinch the three game series at Frawley Stadium.
