ZEBULON, N.C. - Ryan Battaglia's two-run single in the bottom of the ninth inning capped a three-run rally for Carolina in a 5-4 win over the Salem Red Sox on Thursday.
Salem (17-21) led 4-2 going to the bottom of the ninth, after solid pitching performances from starter Henry Owens and middle reliever Noe Ramirez .
Ramirez and Owens allowed only two earned runs over seven innings, and Ott pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning.
But Zach McPhee doubled to start the ninth, went to third on a groundout and then scored on a Tyler Naquin single. Francisco Lindor doubled Naquin to third, setting the stage for Battaglia's heroics.
Salem opened the scoring in the top of the first when Keury De La Cruz singled home Sean Coyle. Coyle later scored on a wild pitch in the top of the third and again on a passed ball by Mudcat catcher Charlie Valerio in the fifth inning.
ON DECK: Salem returns home for a three-game set with Frederick. Salem's Kyle Stroup faces Zach Petersime at 7 p.m.
