College football: UVa to retire Poindexter's jersey Saturday

Virginia will retire Anthony Poindexter's jersey in a ceremony Saturday before the Cavaliers play Indiana.

The award is a long time coming for the hard-hitting safety, who was in on perhaps the most famous tackle in the school's football history. Poindexter and Adrian Burnim stopped Florida State's Warrick Dunn inches from the goal line in a Virginia victory in 1995.

The triumph ended the second-ranked Seminoles' 29-game winning streak in the ACC.

Poindexter, now Virginia's defensive backs coach, played four seasons at Virginia and had his career cut short by a serious knee injury midway through his senior season. He joined Al Groh's staff in the 2003 season.

He will be the 11th player to have his jersey retired by the school.

n The University of Virginia released its injury report for Saturday's game vs. Indiana: Questionable -- Javaris Brown (ankle); probable -- Cam Johnson, (toe), Rodney McLeod (knee), Corey Mosley (knee), Robert Randolph (back), Jameel Sewell (ankle).

Virginia Tech injuries reported

Virginia Tech released its Thursday injury report for Saturday's game against Boston College: Out for Season -- Darren Evans (ACL); probable -- Nekos Brown (illness), Blake DeChristopher (ankle), John Graves (ankle).

Oklahoma St. WR played during investigation

OKLAHOMA CITY -- All-America receiver Dez Bryant played in Oklahoma State's first three games of the season while compliance officials were investigating an apparent meeting with former NFL players Deion Sanders and Omar Stoutmire that he later lied about to the NCAA.

According to documents released by the university Thursday, OSU suggested to the NCAA that it should interview Sanders and Stoutmire because they were "purported to work out" with Bryant.

JoePa tiptoes around question on Bowden

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Penn State coach Joe Paterno says Florida State's Bobby Bowden should "decide what he wants to do now" but otherwise refrained from commenting about the future of the Seminoles' coach.

Bowden came under fire this week after the chairman of the Florida State trustees said Bowden should leave after this season. The Seminoles are 2-3.
