Friday, November 14, 2008November fishing reportProvided by profesional fishing guide Dale WilsonOVERVIEW: Fish will feed aggressively this month in preparation for winter. When selecting lures this month, remember that fish eat lots of crayfish in the fall. Largemouth bass: Fishing will be good. Medium running crankbaits, 38- to 12-oz. jig and pig, 34-oz. spoons, spinnerbait and shakey-head jigs will be great choices for lures. Most fish will be found on vertical banks with rock and wood cover near creek channels. Smallmouth bass: This is a great month to catch smallmouth. Best lures will be small crankbaits, tubes, football head jigs, swimbaits and jig and pig. Main rocky points will be good places to try your luck. Striped bass: Fishing should be great as the water temperature falls. Popping plugs, flukes, bucktails, spoons and swimbaits should catch lots of stripers this month. Live bait and trolling will produce some fish. Most fish will move toward the upper sections of both rivers and the back of the larger creeks. Best depths will be from the surface to 45 feet. Crappie: Fishing is good. Fish can be caught around docks and brush piles in 10 to 15 feet of water. Small minnows, small jigs and tubes will be the best baits. White perch: Fishing is great.; these are delicious fish to eat. They can be caught in the large creeks on small spoons and jigs. Best depths are 25 to 45 feet. There is no size or creel limit. TIP OF THE MONTH: Locate the areas that hold the largest concentrations of baitfish. These areas are usually in the back of coves and the upper sections of the rivers. |
