The Rotary Club of Smith Mountain Lake is gearing up for A Night at the Races, its fall fundraiser on Oct. 18.

The event, which will include horse racing, dinner, refreshments, door prizes, 50/50 raffle, race card winner’s drawing for prizes, a woman’s hat parade and contest
will be held Oct. 18th at the W.E. Skelton 4-H Conference Center.

Dress is “racing casual” or “Kentucky best.” Tickets are $30 per person, which includes admittance, a buffet dinner and  “funny money” to bet on any of the eight video-cast races. There will be many chances to win prizes donated by area merchants.

A cash bar serving beer, wine and “triple crown cocktails” will open at 5:30 p.m. The race program runs from 6 until 10 p.m.; dinner will be served around 6:30 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring an appetizer to share with those at their table. Net proceeds will benefit SML Rotary Club community charitable activities.
