Friday, October 03, 2008Perriello addresses lake residentsTom Perriello, Democratic candidate for 5th District Congress was the guest at a meet and greet in Mountain View Shores on Sept. 19. He expressed his views on the local economy, health care, energy, immigration and other topics of interest. Exchange professional shares experiences Natalie Faunce, director of public relations at Ferrum College, addressed the Rotary Club of Smith Mountain Lake. At the club's bi-monthly meeting, Faunce told about her experiences in Brazil under the Rotary Foundation's Group Study Exchange (GSE) program. Faunce was one of six women who participated in the exchange program. The Rotary Foundation's Group Study Exchange (GSE) program is a cultural and vocational exchange opportunity for business people and professionals between the ages of 25 and 40 who are in the early stages of their careers. The program provides travel grants for teams to exchange visits in paired areas of different countries. Moneta Garden Club's past president honored President Cheryl Trottier recently presented Barbara Babiak, past president of the Moneta Garden Club, with the Virginia Federation of Garden Club Award for Lifetime Membership. Lakeside Players play it up The Smith Mountain Lake Arts Council (SMAC) hosted another of its popular play readings Sunday at the Beechwood Shores clubhouse. Fred Canova and Marion Wetcher went through their paces during reading of the comedy "Me Too, Then!" by Tom Dudzick and Steven Smith. Guests also enjoyed wine and a covered-dish dinner. |
