Gloria Guice, a member of the Moneta Lions Club, learned late last year that her son, Dennis Williams of Burlington, N.C., had been diagnosed with glaucoma, a disease of the eye in which the pressure of fluid inside the eyeball is abnormally high because of obstructed outflow of the fluid. The increased pressure can damage the optic nerve and lead to partial or complete loss of vision. Members of the Moneta club of Virginia District 24-E immediately rallied to offer both spiritual and monetary support to Guice and Williams. With Bill Hadden leading the way and with the ingenuity of Mitch Hooper, both members of Virginia District 24-B, Brookville-Timberlake Lions Club, a magnifier consisting of a 14-inch color television, a furniture clamp and a mini zoom camera, was made for Williams. It is mounted on a rail and attached to the television, and the camera zoom can be adjusted for magnification as needed.
