Lakeside Singers to perform 20th anniversary concert

Lakeside Singers, part of Smith Mountain Arts Council, will present its 20th anniversary concert, "Above and Beyond, Night and Day," June 6 and 7 at 7:30 p.m. at Trinity Ecumenical Parish.

This year, more than 50 local singers will be joined by Susan Spataro and her son JT, 16, who are carrying on the Spataro family tradition by playing a guitar-flute solo. JT started with Lakeside when he was 8 years old, turning pages for his mother at the piano. His grandfather sang with the group for several years and his grandmother headed up the receptions. Susan's husband John acted in skits with the Lakeside Trio.

Lakeside Trio formed 8 years ago and its first performance was singing with Lakeside Singers. The trio -- Marion Wetcher, Denise Gregory and Liz Studelt -- brings humor to its performance.

This year's performance is dedicated to the memory of Mary Elizabeth Andrejczak, a long-time singer who died of cancer last year. Her widower Gene still performs with Lakeside Singers.

Lakeside Singers welcomed nine new members this year: Connie LeMasters, Carol Carlson, Blair Graninger, Jennifer Page, Rhoda Schoepf, Sharon Fitzsimmons, Fred Waddell and Gray Fitzsimmons.

The audience is invited to get into the spirit of the show by wearing blue for the color of the sky.

Tickets are $8 in advance at Radio Shack, Trinity Ecumenical Parish, The Cottage Gate, and Smith Mountain Lake Visitor Center and from any Lakeside Singer. Tickets also are available at the door for $9. Light refreshments will be served.

Trinity Ecumenical Parish, 40 Lakemount Drive, Moneta.
