Library receives grant for health care information

The Franklin County Library's Capital Campaign Committee has been awarded a grant of $16,445 by the Carilion Foundation. The funds will be used for Westlake Library to build a collection of health information materials in various formats.

Part of the money will purchase an interactive electronic white board to enhance lectures and other presentations by professionals from Carilion Clinic.

Another portion of the grant will buy a series of books from the Cleveland Clinic that provide "One Hundred Questions and Answers About..." a wide variety of ailments.

For those who prefer their information in electronic format, the library will be obtaining "Ageline," an online database that can be accessed through the library's in-house computers or through its Web site from a patron's home computer.

The grant also will provide age-appropriate materials for elementary school children.

The books, on-line database, and other materials should be available to the public by the spring of 2009.
