TLAC to respond to USCG letter on conversion of navigational aids

After tabling the discussion for two meetings, Tri-County Lake Administrative Commission voted to respond to a U.S. Coast Guard letter requesting details about how the lake's navigational aids will be converted to meet Coast Guard standards.

At the Oct. 7 meeting, TLAC's attorney, Johnny Overstreet, offered suggestions for editing a draft response.

A unanimous vote to send a response (Liz Parcell, Appalachian Power representative, abstained), pending review by Overstreet, within the week ended months of discussion on how to respond to the Coast Guard.

The discussion was further complicated earlier this year when Appalachian Power submitted a navigation management plan as part of its relicensing application that detailed how the utility proposed to assume responsibility of the markers and the system's conversion.

TLAC's letter will include the uncertainty of who will ultimately assume responsibility of the conversion.

In other TLAC news:

Ralph Brush was elected by unanimous vote to replace Russ Johnson as secretary/treasurer.

TLAC members will meet with Coast Guard and Department of Game and Inland Fisheries representatives to review the application process for no-wake markers.

Because the next TLAC meeting was scheduled for Election Day, TLAC will not meet again until Dec. 2.
