Friday, September 05, 2008Accidents and incidentsIt was a safe holiday weekend on Smith Mountain Lake, with no reportable boating accidents, said Lt. Karl Martin of the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. The only incident to report, he said, was one involving a 56-year-old person who complained of neck and back pain after jumping from the Cliffs. The person was taken to a Bedford hospital for treatment. Two people were charged with operating boats under the influence of alcohol, but Martin said most boat operators played it safe, not indulging in alcohol and not driving at night when shoals are less visible. “It was an enjoyable weekend for everyone who came,” he said. |
