Friday, June 27, 2008Humane Society shop to openThe Franklin County Humane Society's Purrfect Treasures Store will hold its grand opening Saturday, June 28 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. The society also will hold a Pet Adoptathon next door to the store at the Planned Pethood Clinic. Both located at 18401 Virgil Goode Highway (about two miles north of Rocky Mount on U.S. 220). Saturday's grand opening for Purrfect Treasures, which will operate as a fundraiser for the Humane Society, will include music by Rodney Brown from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.; face painting by Wendi Kane; refreshments served from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.; raffle; prizes; and specially priced items. Proceeds will benefit the Franklin County Humane Society's No-Kill Adoption Center. During the Pet Adoptathon, dogs, cats, kittens and puppies will be available for adoption. A special grand-opening price will be offered to encourage kitten adoptions. Kittens may be adopted for a $50 adoption fee that includes spay/neuter, distemper immunization and deworming. A second kitten may be adopted for $25. There will be hourly prize drawings for T-shirts, rugs, bracelets, savings bonds and gift certificates. A grand prize will be drawn at the end of the day. On July 3 and July 5, Studio Belle Visage in Rocky Mount will donate session fees for pet portraits to the Franklin County Humane Society. Session fee is $25 per pet. Customers will receive one free 5-by-7-inch portrait from Studio Belle Visage; additional portraits and products featuring your pet will be available for purchase. Appointments are required and can be scheduled by calling Studio Belle Visage at (540) 489-7722. The first 50 participants to pay their session fee will receive a doggie bag with goodies from Franklin Street merchants. |
