Another of the first female cadets to enter Virginia Military Institute quit the school and went home Friday morning. The woman is the sixth of the original 30 women to leave, and the first since Nov. 4.

VMI spokesman Mike Strickler would not cite the specific reasons the woman left, but said the circumstances were not unusual.

"Sometimes the kids come back from break and realize ... it just wasn't for them," Strickler said. The cadets returned Monday from a three-week holiday furlough during which more than a dozen men dropped out, but none of the women.

In all, 65 of the 430 men who enrolled this year dropped out.
