Feb. 22, 1895 - June 12, 1918
Born in Lyndhurst. At the time of his enlistment in the Marine Corps, he worked at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City. Served in France with the 55th Company, 5th Regiment, attached to the American Expeditionary Forces. Killed in the battle of Belleau Wood. Survived by his parents, Arch Willis and Esta Lunsford Parry; brothers William, Commodore, Ira and James; and sisters Mabel, Eva, Hazel, Clara and Bess. Buried in Aisne-Marne Cemetery in France.

From Roanoke. Worked as a farmer and a carpenter before the war. Served in the Army. Died of influenza during the great epidemic of 1918. Survived by his parents, William and Laura Reckley; brothers, William, Guy, Carl and Chester; sisters, Daisy, Maud, and Pearl. Buried before the family found out he had been ill. Later reinterred at Allegany County Cemetery in Maryland. Says his niece: "Harry played the fiddle. At the time of his death, his brother Guy was in France with the Army. The family was very apprehensive that they would lose him, too."

a carpenter before the war. Killed in France. Survived by his parents, Charles and Nannie Sweeney; brothers, Jessie, Dorando and Roy; sisters, Roxie Sweeney, Macy S. Lovern, Mary S. Lucas and Daisy S. Boswell. Buried in Meuse Argonne Cemetery in France. After the war, his mother wrote to the federal government: "Please let me tell you what a good boy Charley was. He was not married and was so good to stay at home. He worked for us since he was 9 years old. ... It is so hard to give him up."

From Roanoke. Was a student before the war. Served in the Navy. Died of influenza aboard the USS Pocahontas, which was returning to the United States. Survived by his father and stepmother, Howard and Lelia White; stepsisters, Bessie M. White and Edna W. Follmar; stepbrother, Roy R. White. Buried at East Hill Cemetery in Salem. White was too young to enlist without parental permission, but he begged his parents and they finally relented.

Buried at Gogginsville United Methodist Church Cemetery in Rocky Mount. Died exactly two weeks after his brother Richard, who also served in the Army. Another brother, Sankey, was killed in World War II.
