Incumbent Mike Stovall won four more years on the Roanoke County School Board on Tuesday -- his fifth consecutive term in the Vinton District seat.

Stovall defeated two challengers, Jason Peters and Russell Wise, in the race.

Stovall, a Vinton native who has held the seat for 14 years, won the majority in five of the district's six precincts and collected more than 52 percent of the votes.

"I am grateful to the citizens of the Vinton District for believing in me how I believe in them and loving me how I love them," he said Tuesday evening.

Stovall and his family knocked on more than 2,000 doors to campaign in recent weeks, he said.

Stovall also won a three-way race when he was first elected in 1994. He ran unopposed in 1997, 2001 and 2005.

"My commitment today is the same commitment I made: To make the necessary budget decisions so that no full-time employee in this county [school division] loses their job," he said.

Stovall formerly was a private investigator and Vinton police officer. He now owns Alert Driver Training, a company that offers classroom and behind-the-wheel driver education. He graduated from William Byrd High School in 1980.

Two other school board incumbent members whose terms were set to expire ran unopposed: Chairman Drew Barrineau in the Windsor Hills District and Jerry Canada in the Hollins District.
