The Roanoke Valley Association of Realtors has endorsed one incumbent and two newcomers for seats on the Roanoke County Board of Supervisors.
Current Hollins Supervisor Richard Flora, challenger Pat Patterson in Vinton and first-time candidate Sarah Goodman in Windsor Hills all received the group's backing.
Flora is a Republican; Patterson and Goodman are Democrats.
The association "focused on issues related to quality of life and private property rights" in making its decision, said Todd Wampler, the group's president.
The candidate interviews focused "on issues related to funding for schools and other capital improvements, the increasing water and sewer fees for new homes and regional cooperation," Wampler said.
Goodman also won the endorsement of the Roanoke Group of the Sierra Club.
The only supervisor candidate to receive the group's nod, Goodman has "pro-environment values we support," the group said in a news release.
"Goodman's staunch support of Roanoke County greenways is particularly noteworthy. On many other issues, including the future of Explore Park, the Sierra Club found that Goodman supports a practical, balanced, environmentally-responsible approach to how Roanoke County government proceeds," the group said.
