Virginia's longest-serving legislative representative will seek another term.
Lacey Putney, 81, has served in the House of Delegates since 1962.
Putney, I-Bedford, announced Tuesday that he is running for re-election in the 19th District, which includes the city of Bedford as well as much of Bedford and Botetourt counties.
"While traveling and attending community events throughout the 19th District I have been asked and encouraged by Democrats, Republicans and Independents to seek re-election to another two-year term in the House of Delegates," Putney said in a news release.
Putney defeated Democrat Lewis Medlin, a Montvale businessman, in 2007. Putney got 73 percent of the vote.
Putney also holds the influential role of chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, which is responsible for drafting the state's budget.
So far no one has announced plans to run against Putney in November's election.
