The Roanoke Valley SPCA has been the leading advocate for the homeless and unwanted animals of the area since 1916. The Adoption & Education Center is located at 1340 Baldwin Avenue, Roanoke, and is open to the public at 11:30 a.m. Monday-Saturday. http://www.rvspca.org

The Angels of Assisi Adoption Center opened in April 2003 and has placed over 5,000 dogs and cats in loving homes. All pets are up to date on shots, combo or HW tested, spayed/neutered, and micro chipped. Most of the animals at the Angels of Assisi Adoption Center are also available for foster care. The League for Animal Protection is a small non-profit, no-kill shelter in Fincastle, with dogs and cats for adoption. LAP is open to the public every day from 8:30-11 a.m. and 3-5 p.m., and encourages visitors to come see the facility and meet the shelter animals. http://lap.petfinder.com
