Reader reports on Virginia Outdoor Sportsman Show

Tuesday, August 13, 2013

John Wright of Amherst was one of the thousands who attended the 30th Virginia Outdoor Sportsman Show held in Richmond this past weekend. It was sponsored by the Virginia Deer Hunters Association. I asked Wright to report on what he saw:

BILL: As promised, here is my rundown on the show: Very large, lots of vendors, lots of beautiful deer heads, huge crowd. I bought a Browning trail camera for less than $100, which was a good buy.

I saw an interesting deer attractant-type food mixture called Campbell Girls Deer Sauce. The company website is www.campbellgirlsdeersauce.com. The man I talked with, and his three daughters, developed the product and I overheard a number of people at the show telling about how good it works.

We stopped by Green Top Sporting Goods before coming home and they were selling the attractant for $20 a bucket. The bucket looked to be about 3 gallons.

No, I didn't buy any, but may later.

The prices on what ammo they had at Green Top was unreal. A box of 50 .22 long rifle hollow points was over $12 with tax.

No, I didn't buy those, either.

One of my friends bought a Ruger 9 mm at Green Top and the ammo for it was $19.99 for a box of 20. With tax, they were over $1 per bullet. I guess we have our great leaders in Washington to thank for all of this.
