BILL: I found your report on the 13-pound hybrid striped bass/white bass state record of interest. You said this was the first one entered for record status. How many citations have been entered?
L.W.
L.W.: I don’t have this year’s total, but in 2008 there were 12 hybrid citations registered with the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. Nine came from Claytor Lake and three from Flannagan Reservoir. They ranged in length from 23 to 29 inches. The largest was a 10-pound, 14-ounce Flannagan catch. Howard Simpkins registered four from Claytor Lake, which was nearly half of that impoundment’s total.
