Drying out ethanol

BILL: Concerning problems with boat motors burning ethanol, my lawnmower mechanic says the same problems exist with those engines. He suggests a product called “Sea Foam.” It is a multicleaner that does all kinds of good stuff. You can buy it at most auto parts stores.

A friend of mine, a 30-year Navy Seal, was duck hunting on the Snake River in Idaho this winter and had his boat engine fail to start after sitting on the bank for several hours in zero degree weather. He finally flagged down another boat to get towed back up the river to the landing.

My guess is the water from ethanol froze in the fuel system somewhere.

BILL: What happened to the hound hunting study? I checked the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries Web site and found an update in some old board meeting minutes, but didn’t find an action plan for the future. None of the new proposed regulations seem to address any of the issues that were day lighted by the hound study. The draft April 7 board minutes didn’t mention it at all. Are we going to see any new regulations spin out of the study?

PENN: I am unaware of any movement to establish regulations motivated by the hound study, and my recent inquiry to DGIF officials on the issue has been unanswered at this point.
