BILL: The piece about Dennis Adams catching the big striped bass from a 13-foot kayak was fascinating. Can you tell me what he does special to rig the craft for fishing?
C.R.
C.R.: Here’s what Adams says: “I have set my ride up with a custom-made accessory bar that holds my depth finder and rod holders. I have a 12-volt battery inside the hull. I have a milk crate that I use to hold my tackle and gear and I have PVC tubes attached to the side of the crate to act as rod holders. My stern light also attaches to the crate.”
Adams is scheduled to present a program on kayak fishing shortly after the first of the year at the Sportsman’s Warehouse in Roanoke. Watch for details.
One of the sources of information that I use for rigging a kayak is Ric Burnley’s “The Complete Kayak Fisherman.” Burnley lives in Virginia Beach where he teaches school, writes for a number of angling publications and is an avid kayak angler.
