BILL: I have heard something about their being a youth spring gobbler hunting day this year. Know anything about it?
C.J.
C.J.: Youth hunting day in Virginia is Saturday, April 7. It has been around for several years and is open to youngsters 15 years of age or younger. This one should be extra good because a quick green-up has the turkeys gobbling.
Young people who participate in the event must be accompanied and directly supervised by a licensed adult hunter. The adult can do the calling but can not carry a firearm or shoot.
Remember, youth between the age of 12 and 15 must have the required hunting licenses.
Youth day is an excellent time to introduce a youngster to hunting. Competition from other hunters generally is not a problem and the toms can be cooperative.
The bag limit is one bearded bird and the hunting hours are one-half hour before sunrise till noon.

T.D.: I am going on a mushroom hunt in the morning with a guy who says he has been into them.
