Carolyn Brown's time in the striper spotlight didn't last too long.

Less than a year after boating a record saltwater striped bass, Brown saw her fish eclipsed by another monster striper.

Paul Kleckner of Greenbackville boated a 63 pound, 8 ounce striper Sunday off Virginia's Eastern Shore.

Fishing aboard the private boat White Bite with Otis Evans Jr., Kleckner was trolling about 18 miles south of Wachapreague Inlet and roughly two miles off the beach when the big striper hit a parachute lure dressed with a 4-inch-long white shad. The lure was the trailing bait of an umbrella rig.

Kleckner needed 25 minutes to subdue the record striper, which was 50 1/2 inches long, with a girth of 33 inches.

Book aims for digital shooters

Digital cameras are in roughly 43 million American homes, but few of those photographers are getting the most out of their high-tech gear.

"Digital Photography Outdoors" by James Martin is a new guide book that can help.

The book includes sections on basic photography techniques, a helpful glossary, a digital equipment overview, and digital photo techniques, from basic to advanced.

The guide is straightforward enough for novice photographers, but also detailed enough to also appeal to experienced photographers.

The 156-page guide, published by The Mountaineers Books (mountaineersbooks.org) has a cover price of $16.95 and is available through local bookstores and Internet book sellers.
