The current shutdown and possible default debate is almost laughable, if it didn’t have such severe consequences for the American people, and possibly for our economy.
The president cannot allow Teapublicans to threaten damage to this country unless they get their way. This would do irreparable damage to our democracy. One way to characterize their position is this.
GOP: “Can I burn your house down?”
GOP: “How about just the second floor?”
GOP: “Just your garage?”
GOP: “Let’s discuss how much of the house we can burn down.”
GOP: “I can’t believe you won’t negotiate with me!’
We need adults running this country, not children. And the fact that Reps. Robert Hurt, Morgan Griffith and Bob Goodlatte all voted to support this nonsensical Teapublican position tells me they are not adults and should be sent to their rooms.
