Get the skaters involved

“ Give ’em a skate park” (Aug. 9 Pick of the day) is a great idea.

A further thought on that: Would it be possible to obtain some land for a park and allow the skaters to participate in the construction and design of it? As a kid, I knew more than one skater who actually built his own quarter pipe in his back yard.

I’ll bet some dads would be interested in getting involved, too.

Giving the kids the opportunity to contribute would instill pride, responsibility and a sense of accomplishment. Also, a sense of ownership that would inspire them to participate in the upkeep of the park.
