Deborah Ring’s commentary on Head Start (“Head Start Gets an F,” Aug. 7) is in line with a Jan. 28 commentary by The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank.
Ring’s ranting about the failure of the Head Start program is obviously another right-wing assault against America’s poor, especially the children.
I, too, am a military veteran, former adjunct professor and educational professional with 35 years of experience in public and private education.
I have experienced the positive effects of Head Start on the development of the whole child many years beyond the Department of Health and Human Services data collection period.
My comments and opinions are supported by professor emeritus Edward Zigler of Yale University School of Medicine (tinyurl.com/ctga9te).
Zigler is a child psychologist and expert on the developmental factors of children. He has published an extensive critique of the DHHS Head Start report and found many erroneous statistics and statements that cast doubt on the accuracy of the full report.
Do your homework.
