How wonderful it was to read about the Oliver Hill House after-school program (“Oliver Hill House hosting new after-school program,” July 19 news story). Group activities, Big Brother/Sister programs — all with much value to the children.
However, juice boxes and Cheez‑Its for snacks? I sigh, along with my mother, who always made sure that we had healthful snacks.
I’m a pastor’s kid, so we had little income as I was growing up. But Mom paid careful attention to our nutritional needs. Milk was our beverage; carrot and celery sticks and other vegetables were our lunch and snack offerings.
Also, fruit in season. Just a suggestion.
