Don't Miss:

Broadway in Roanoke is back! Enter to win two season passes to all 9 shows!

The people, powered by the press

Saturday, July 6, 2013

The editorial in the paper Wednesday is excellent (“The raise debacle that needn’t have been,” July 3).

It frames up what took place, and who the players are.

But the biggest part of all this is that the public stepped up and called out the so-called council majority.

So the winners in all this, if there are any, are the readers and concerned residents who took time to send in letters, commentaries, blog posts and got involved.

This very clearly shows that when the average person takes issue with elected leaders who overreach, desired results can be obtained without using force, other than printed words.

So you folks on The Roanoke Times Editorial Board, with metro columnist Dan Casey and city hall reporter David Ress, provided the vehicle and the means for the public to respond.

Thank God for The Roanoke Times and the dedication to the public and your readers you provide.
