Re: “Baptists take a stand for the Bible,” June 20 Pick of the day:
As a former Southern Baptist, I am appalled that a Christian organization would bully young boys who are looking to understand how they fit into the world. The focus should be on offering a safe, loving place where all boys are welcome to be Boy Scouts, follow the Scout motto and earn the badges that are precious to them.
As a sinner myself, I assume as Scripture says, “All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” None of the boys in Scouts or any of us is without sin. As Jesus said, “Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.”
What a wonderful thing it would have been if Southern Baptists had stood for love and welcomed everyone to their churches, especially young boys who are facing a crisis of self-acceptance and a hostile world.
I pray, as a recipient of unmerited grace myself, that my arms are open, full of love and not judgment.
