Re: Bedford County Supervisor Annie Pollard’s reference to teachers as “a bunch of crybabies” (“Final Bedford County budget allows 3 % raises for teachers,” April 23 news story):
I am not a crybaby. I am a Bedford County resident, born and raised. I am a mother of three children. I am a taxpayer, and I am a teacher.
How dare Pollard? I am a professional who gets one of the lowest salaries in my profession. I am her neighbor and her equal in every way. She should be ashamed.
I haven’t had a real raise in five years, yet every expense in my life in Bedford has been raised.
I love my profession, but Pollard has insulted teachers. Everything about our role in a student’s life has become more challenging. Yet our compensation is neglected.
Bedford County is second lowest in the state of Virginia in student spending. That makes me sad for our children — for my children.
