VEA endorsements questioned
The Virginia Education Association’s political arm, The Fund for Children and Public Education, has inexplicably endorsed Republican Dels. Joseph Yost and Nick Rush and, by extension, gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli’s proposal to overhaul Virginia’s educational system.
This is a plan that would dismantle public education and obliterate the tradition of church/state separation that has existed since Thomas Jefferson wrote The Virginia Statue for Religious Freedom in 1777.
Perhaps it is time for the hard-working, underpaid and underappreciated teachers to question those in the VEA who claim to speak for them about whose interests are being served by such an endorsement.
