Casey’s columns show his priority
It is so comforting to see that Dan Casey is presenting himself as arbiter for truth during the present gubernatorial campaign (“Cases show Cuccinelli’s priorities,” June 2 column). However, it does seem that every other of his major columns is directed against Ken Cuccinelli — almost as if it were a vendetta.
Thankfully, we can be certain he will be equally as tough on Terry McAuliffe when he turns his spotlight on him, as has The New York Times.
For example, in April it reported, “Mr. McAuliffe resigned as GreenTech’s chairman last year but publicly acknowledged it only this month. Documents have surfaced questioning his explanation for why he located the plant in Mississippi, not Virginia, including memos from Virginia officials expressing ‘grave doubts’ about his business model and suggesting its financing was a ‘visa-for-sale scheme’ for Chinese investors.”
But wait! You say Casey doesn’t criticize Democrats, only Republicans? But, of course, how silly of me. This is The Roanoke Times. And this is Dan Casey.

Blacksburg insists on protecting itself
Re: Wayne Akers’ letter (“Developers should flee Blacksburg”) of June 3, regarding the development project for the old Blacksburg Middle School property:
Blacksburg has limited the development that would change the atmosphere of the town, allowing it to maintain local businesses.
If we want to go to generic America, it is only a short seven-mile drive to see what happens to a community that does not have the same mindset, and see how all of the big box stores have destroyed the community feeling in Christiansburg.
I applaud the town leaders for toeing the line and keeping the community a town with local shops and restaurants that we can easily walk to and not fear for our safety crossing the multi-lane roadway that runs through Christiansburg.
