Climate warnings are needlessly alarming
Re: Sarah Bucci’s and John Edwards’ commentary “Act on global warming to prevent extreme weather” (May 5):
Once again, climate activists are reminding us of recent weather events, which we cannot link to global warming, in order to scare us into changing our lifestyles. I hope Roanoke Times readers have better critical-thinking skills than these authors do.
They imply that last year’s derecho was a result of global warming. But they did not say so, for they know it cannot be proven. They state that scientists predict even more extreme weather. However, years ago, Al Gore predicted more and bigger hurricanes, and this has not come to pass.
Please don’t cite Sandy, for it was only a Category 1. Weather has always happened, and is no more extreme than it has ever been.
As for citing President Obama’s belief that we are causing extreme weather, I trust him on weather as much as I trust him on the economy, which is to say, not at all. There has been no warming for 16 years. Please stop the scare tactics and give us real science.

Now the Christians are heading into their closets
America is standing at the crossroads of moral and political corruption, and a faltering economy that will make the fall of the Roman Empire pale in comparison. America needs to turn to Jeremiah, which says to ask for the old paths where is the good way. Walk in them and find rest for your souls.
America is encouraged by liberal leaders and media to do the opposite. As Jeremiah said about the people of his time, “We will not walk in them!” The ultraliberal media are brainwashing the American people, especially our youth, into thinking there is nothing wrong with the gay lifestyle, same-sex marriage or abortion.
Our liberal president and other liberal politicians use the media to support these sins against God. America is reaping the whirlwind. Christians are taking to their closets. They haven’t the courage to speak out and take a stand.
Look at the tragedies in our society today. People ask where is God? The answer is, God is a gentleman and will not be anywhere where he is not welcome. Stand up. Speak up, Christians. Our nation is in trouble.
