The first stand against gun control
April 19 marks the 238th anniversary of the first battle of the War for American Independence, fought at Lexington, Mass., in 1775. British forces were sent to seize the stores at Concord and to capture John Hancock and Samuel Adams, both believed to be in Lexington. News of the approaching forces was carried across country by Paul Revere.
Many reasons are given for the cause of the Revolutionary War, as stated in the Declaration of Independence. However, shooting actually started when the king issued an order to take the guns from the colonists. This was well before the Second Amendment. The war actually started because of gun control.
Tyrants seek to disarm. Guns have but two enemies: guns and politicians.

Now the library lacks free parking
I love going to the libraries here in the Roanoke Valley, but I am very disappointed in the parking situation for the downtown library. There's no more Bullitt Avenue, and if you want to use the library it will cost you $1 or more to park across the street. I hope Roanoke will come up with a solution so we patrons can enjoy going downtown and using this library.
You don't need a weatherman . . . (a good thing, too)
What professional most likely earns a very acceptable salary, is clearly well educated, most often can be found working in a windowless office, is generally well known, well liked and well respected by the community - yet is wrong about 68 percent of the time?
