Re: “Climate change harms our health” (by Molly O’Dell, Feb. 17 Horizon):

Anecdotal stories are not science. I am not a climate scientist, but I am a scientist (PhD molecular biology), and I know how science is supposed to work. O’Dell’s column wasn’t very scientific.

Nor are writings that claim Hurricane Sandy was caused by global warming. No scientist worth his or her salt would ever blame specific weather events on global warming. Just because O’Dell lists a bunch of weather events (haven’t weather events/cycles always existed?) does not prove global warming or climate change is the culprit.

Interestingly, George Will’s column (“Night of nonsense,” Feb. 17) said that hurricane activity is at a three-decade low, and quotes the highly respected science journal Nature that “there has been little change in drought over the past 60 years.”

In fact, the Earth has not warmed for 15 years, even though computer models predicted it would. If computer models can’t be trusted for 15-year predictions, why trust them for century predictions? As for health effects of climate change, if the Earth is warming, think of all those who will no longer die of cold. There are positive effects of warming. Google it.
