The Roanoke Times ranks best-read weekday newspaper in the country
The Roanoke Times ranks first in the country in terms of percentage of total adults reading a newspaper on weekdays, according to Scarborough's "Ranker Report," produced every six months. The newspaper ranks tenth in the country for the percentage of adults reading an average Sunday issue.
The report ranks newspapers in the largest 106 Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSA) of the nation by average daily issue readership by all adults. Comparing readership percentages of 183 newspapers, The Roanoke Times ranked at the top with the highest percent of total adults, 56.0%, reading an average daily issue. Of 228,640 adults in the Roanoke metropolitan area—which includes the counties of Roanoke, Botetourt, Craig and Franklin and the cities of Salem and Roanoke—128,040 read an average daily issue of The Roanoke Times.
The Roanoke Times has stayed consistently in the top ten of this ranking since 2002, when it was first named "number one."
"I'm thrilled we are back at the top. This is the result of the daily commitment to excellence made by every employee in the company and of our exceptional journalistic quality," says Wendy Zomparelli, president and publisher.
The Roanoke Times, founded in 1886, is owned by Landmark Communications Inc. It is the largest newsgathering organization in Southwest Virginia. Visit the newspaper's Web site at roanoke.com.
