Former Henry County vice officer Travis Todd Wilkins was sentenced this morning to 36 months probation and a $1,500 fine.

Wilkins pleaded guilty in federal court in January to a charge of possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

U.S. District Court Judge James Turk said he saw nothing to be gained by incarcerating Wilkins. Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Bassford filed a substantial assistance motion, saying Wilkins had cooperated with authorities, and did not argue against Wilkins getting only probation.

Wilkins was one of 20 Henry County defendants -- including former Sheriff Frank Cassell and a dozen of his officers -- rounded up in a case that centered on drug-dealing by sheriff's office employees and others but included a wide range of other charges.
