Kitchen fire causes $50,000 in damage to apartment
A kitchen fire in an apartment on Fauquier Street in Roanoke on Friday morning caused $50,000 in damages and displaced residents living in the unit.
No one was injured in the blaze, according to the Roanoke Fire-EMS Department, which received the call shortly after 6 a.m. to the 1200 block of Fauquier Street.
Fire crews were able to extinguish the blaze by 6:11 a.m. The kitchen was destroyed, according to fire officials, and the rest of the unit sustained severe smoke and water damage.
The residents are receiving shelter from the local chapter of the American Red Cross.
