Tech student charged with hit-and-run
The driver who police say struck a pedestrian in Blacksburg on Thursday and fled in her car was arrested Friday afternoon.
Andrea Maria Gillespie, a 23-year-old Virginia Tech psychology major, was charged with hit-and-run causing injury, reckless driving and operation of a motor vehicle without insurance, according to a Blacksburg police press release.
On Thursday, police seized a 1998 Honda sedan shortly after a car swerved off Draper Road, hit a 23-year-old Tech student and then hit a sign and a signpost.
Police were looking for the driver until Gillespie was arrested at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
The injured student was treated at the scene and released.
