Road-rage shooting results in Bedford County accident
A man whose vehicle was shot at in Bedford County ran a stop sign to escape the gunman and crashed into a motorcycle, said Capt. Mike Miller of the Bedford County Sheriff's Department.
Police have not released the names of the people involved in the shooting and accident.
The motorcyclist was transported to Bedford Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, Miller said.
The sheriff's department had not located the gunman late Sunday, Miller said. He said the shooting was an act of road rage, but didn't elaborate.
The gunman, driving a Ford Escort, followed the shooting victim east on Virginia 24 from William Fleming High School in Roanoke to Bedford County.
The shooting victim had pulled into a driveway near the intersection of Virginia 24 and Rock Cliff Road when his car was shot at twice with a pellet gun, Miller said.
The shooting victim then pulled out of the driveway and ran a stop sign at the intersection of Virginia 24 and Rock Cliff Road, colliding with the motorcycle.
The shooting victim was charged with failure to yield the right of way, said State Trooper B. Long.
State police are investigating the accident, while the Bedford County Sheriff's Department is investigating the shooting.
