Roanoke.com wins journalism award for 'Crooked Road' series
Roanoke.com and The Roanoke Times were named first-place winners Friday in a national online journalism contest sponsored by the Scripps Howard National Journalism Foundation.
The Web site and newspaper were honored for "Going Down the Crooked Road," an August 2005 series about Southwest Virginia's bluegrass traditions. The Web version included video stories about stops on the trail, including the Floyd jamboree and Carter Family Fold, as well as an interactive bluegrass primer.
Multimedia editor Seth Gitner, reporter Ralph Berrier and photographer Kyle Green will accept the award April 21 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. Online producer Patrick Beeson and graphic artist Rob Lunsford also were contributors and share in the recognition.
