Bedford Police Department reaccredited

The Bedford Police Department announced Wednesday that it has been reaccredited by the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission.

Each accreditation cycle is four years.

To qualify for accreditation, the department must be in compliance with 187 standards set by the commission.

The commission's review of the police department occurred over three days in October.

An assessment team reviewed the department's policies and procedures, interviewed and rode with police officers on the job and reviewed files "to ensure that the department is following best practices in law enforcement as established by the commission," according to a news release.
