Colonial Avenue will be closed near North Cross School at the intersection of Colonial Place Drive until at least Aug. 30 because heavy rainfall last week kept workers from completing a construction project.

The Southwest Roanoke County intersection was scheduled to open Monday, after completion of the second phase of a project that includes a roundabout that opened in November at Penn Forest Boulevard and Colonial Avenue.

Crews have been working to make sight-distance improvements on Colonial Avenue.

"Much of the work we're doing now is weather-dependent," Robbie Williams, a Virginia Department of Transportation engineer who is managing the project, said in a news release.

Traffic will continue to be detoured to Brambleton Avenue and Electric Road, VDOT said.
