Roanoke police find $8,000 in stolen items

The theft of a credit card led detectives to find $8,000 worth of property that they believe three suspects stole from eight vehicles in South Roanoke in the Tuesday darkness, police said.

Detectives on Tuesday investigated the use of a credit card that had been stolen along with a wallet and other things from a car, Roanoke police spokeswoman Aisha Johnson said Wednesday afternoon.

The detectives traced the suspects and found that they had taken things from eight cars sometime between midnight and 2 a.m. Tuesday, Johnson said. Six of the eight victims didn't know their property was missing when police contacted them, Johnson said.

About $5,200 worth of property has been returned.

The thefts were reported at: the 2600 and 2700 blocks of Jefferson Avenue, the 2500 and 2700 blocks of Crystal Spring Avenue Southwest, 27th Street, the 2500 block of Cornwallis Avenue Southeast and Carolina Avenue Southwest.

Johnson did not identify the suspects. She said detectives have not charged the suspects, and that they continue to investigate the thefts.
